I first remember Carlin as the conductor on Shining Time Station on PBS when I was a kid. Anyone who can go from a character on a children’s program to adult-oriented comedy simultaneously deserves to be remembered as a master of the public arts. It is rare that anyone I enjoyed watching on tv when I was 5 is someone I can still enjoy watching when I am 25. He will be missed.

Did he drink the water then pee on the fire? I’ve only ever seen this on TV and I was wondering if I missed how the fire actually got put out. I’ve always been under the impression that he drank the water and mystically the fire just went out.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I had to just share this with the world.

I had the following exchange with my supervisor:

Her (carrying a glass of water and spilling drops everwhere):
“I can’t carry a glass of water to save my life.”

Me: “Well, you’d never pass the final test at the end of ‘The Golden Child’ then.”

Her: What?

So yeah, work’s going good.
