Rick Reilly is one of the greatest writers. I have a couple of his books as well. He tells a wonderful story, but when he writes for the magazines, his writing is different. Not a bad different, but different because he needs to get the story out in less words. He is amazing and have heard him talk once. Didn't get the chance to meet him personally and I await that day. He is a great person and someone who I am proud to live in the same state with.

Mr Dagger,
I whole heartedly agree with your column and the sentiment you express about Rick Reilly. I never really started reading his columns until I lived with someone who had a subscription to SI (I always was a reader of ESPN Mag, so the last half year has been great) but once I did, I always enjoyed his pieces. They weren't sappy like Outside the Lines stories are, they just show you that sports is a part of a grander thing called life, and as such, can many times serve to enrich it.
You are very lucky to have the opportunity to meet him and I am glad to see you appreciate it as much as I would have.
