I have seen articles like that before…Could it be that The Muppet Show was an influence of Tina Fey’s, and that perhaps there are planned parallels between the two? I don’t like these articles that dismiss everything that is a clever tribute as a ripoff. As anyone who enjoys comedy knows, comedians are influenced by their predecessors and often “borrow” from them. It doesn’t mean they are stealing or ripping each other off. In fact, that’s really true for any creative medium.

30 Rock is awesome.

PS – I recall an episode a while back where Kenneth the page sees everyone as Muppets.

I’m more of a Fraggle Rock fan myself, I was so excited when I bought the first season on dvd a few months ago. I’m now brainwashing my little cousins to like it as well and have to bring the dvds with me everytime I visit them.

But my favorite Sesame Street muppet is Cookie Monster. Because C is not only for cookie it’s also for “Corriander”.

I know we’ve alluded to this before, but three of my biggest comedic influences are George Carlin, Lewis Black, and Cookie Monster’s Mom. She is easily one of my all-time favorite characters and an underappreciated comic genius.

As for Elmo, he was fun in a smaller role, but much like Stiffler, he wears out his welcome in larger doses.

I never thought about it before, but you’re absolutely right: Animal is fucking punk rawk!

Which ones can’t you name?

Elmo has ruined sesame street. That show used to have all sorts of good charcters. I remember arguing with my friends about who was the best, I liked grover other people like Cookie Monster, or Kermit. Now if you ask any kid it is always Elmo. I’d like to blame the juggernaught that is PBS for focusing a large portion of the show on one crappy character.
