I think you’re spot on with that assessment Hart, but I think the slogan works because the words Dr Pepper have now appeared in the comments section of a single internet blog posting 15 times (not counting this one).
Mission accomplished Dr Pepper marketers. I want one now.

Anything I can do to annoy you Tron. I actually agree with you and thought about that after I published this. I think what they are going for is Diet Dr Pepper taste more like regular Dr Peppper compared with the way other diet sodas taste like regular sodas. So Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like Dr Pepper than Diet Pepsi tastes like Pepsi.

“Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like regular Dr Pepper” More than what? If it is “Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like regular Dr Pepper than Sprite.” then I get it but that is obvious. This slogan has always bugged me. I don’t think it is even “Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like regular Dr Pepper than it used to.” Because they have been touting this slogan for 20 years. It couldn’t be “Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like regular Dr Pepper than regular Dr Pepper.” Which is clever I guess but ultimatly hollow. Why don’t they just say, “Diet Dr Pepper tastes like regular Dr Pepper.” That “more” is going to eat my brain, thanks a lot Hart.
