(He was in high school.) He remembered that a lot of people were upset that it wasn't going to be Mantle who broke the record, but they got behind Maris in those last few games. I had a blurb on there about Maris' 61 in '61. (It was still a really big deal then because no one had broken it yet) I never realized the complexity of the story or the way it polarized baseball fans until seeing this movie later on. It's a great flick (unlike Mike) and I probably need to add it to my collection. Now I want to see this movie. I also found it odd how Yankee fans fawned all over Mickey Mantle even though he was something of a scumbag. But hey, it was the 60s, so whatever, right?
