That's the movie. The B-Story is the baseball in this movie. If you set out to watch a somber movie about a dysfunctional relationship then you might be satisfied with your choice. They could fix the movie by changing one letter in the title. "For Love or the Game" wouldn't appeal to me any more than this movie did, but at least it would hit its target audience.
