Surprisingly not a movie we picked to write about

Thanksgiving has come on gone, we hope you all enjoyed yours, but now Christmas is right around the corner and that means our local soft rock station is gearing up to over play their Christmas playlist, the cable network USA is going to put Elf on every night and of course TBS will have its 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story. For this Monday Confessional we followed in this spirit of over indulgence as we asked: What is your most played CD and most watched movie? Let’s get to it so you can get back to watching your movie.

Alright, alright, alright

Lee S. Hart: If this is the CD that has literally spent the most time in my CD player then the answer is Streetcore from Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros but that is only because it was in a CD player that has busted and I have not been able to get it out. So it has spent the most time in my player but I haven’t listened to it a long time.

As far as CD I have listened to the most lately it has been a combination of CDs. I have to say that getting the most airtime from me is Rise Against, there isn’t one album from them, but rather all of them. I listen to most of my music in the car and they make great music for driving. I find myself listening to one of albums and by the time I hit the end I want more and throw in another one. I repeat this process until I have gone through them all.

The DVD choice is a little harder to pin down. I like to have a movie going while I am doing other things like write for this site or do homework and the best for those types of tasks are movie I have seen a lot and doesn’t require my attention. Lately my choice has been for Dazed and Confused. A big reason for this choice is the movie is very music centric, it is more like having a CD playing than having a movie playing. The movie also makes me miss the feeling that was always abound on that last day of school and how no matter what you were doing it was a lot of fun and the upcoming summer had so many possibilities. Runners up would have to be Wayne’s World which was the first movie I owned and I still find comfort in it and Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie which is the only movie I can watch then restart it and watch again right away.

Hope that lady makes it away ok

E Dagger: I chronically re-watch movies, but with the proliferation of TV stations perpetually re-running great time killing movies and the great time suck vortex known as Comcast OnDemand, I have less and less use for my DVD collection. Not only are movies like Dodgeball and Mr. & Mrs. Smith on FX all the livelong day, they save me the agony of actually having to make a decision about what to watch too. So, that leaves me with movies that for whatever reason get precious little airplay from the illuminati that decide the programming schedules of TBS and Encore.

The DVD that gets the most play in my collection is definitely The Warriors. I’ve gushed about this movie at length before, but suffice to say, this movie has everything you’d ever want in a re-watchable classic – fighting, an underdog group of protagonists, colorful and visually interesting supporting characters, funny and quotable lines, and hilarious-looking 1970s iconography. I’m in on this movie from the word go, and if I have nothing to do, you can bet I’m cozying up with a beer and my friends from Coney Island for the next 90 minutes. And in the words of Cyrus, “Can you dig it?!”

As for music, since my pipeline of new free music dried up when my college career ended, I buy very little new music anymore thus leaving me with my more than adequate collection. Bands like Zebrahead, Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake, and Rise Against all usually reside in CD changer’s regular rotation. But if we’re doing this from a purely numerical standpoint, the winner is “Duck and Cover” by The Mad Caddies. I borrowed this CD from a friend junior year of high school, and it didn’t leave my CD player for 6 straight months. It was one of those cases where I heard it the first time and thought to myself, “What IS this?!” It’s crazy combination of manic 3rd wave ska, driving punk rock bravado, and occasional influx of jazz and dixieland elements was like aural heroin that I still love today. Plus, it reminds me of just how important music used to feel when you were growing up. Music used to be life or death, and remembering that passion is always a good thing.

With a movie set in the 70′s and one made in the 70′s you would think we were obsessed with that decade, but alas the movies just have a comfortable familiar feel. But enough of us let’s turn it over to a couple of our readers.

Clearly London wins with its beautiful people

Lady E: I am slightly embarrassed by my CD and DVD… The CD that never leaves my CD player in the car and at work is the Twilight soundtrack. I love this soundtrack! It is so chill and relaxing. I am on the phones for a living, I talk to people all day, so when I am driving I need something soft, chill and really good. Alas Twilight always wins. The DVD that is always in my player is The Holiday. I feel like I have talked about this before on this site, but it is just good! It takes away (momentarily) how much I miss England, and I just don’t have to think about the movie, thus allowing me to clean or cook while I am watching it.

Hart’s actual second choice

F-U-Natalie: Bless me Staff, for I have sinned. It’s been 3 weeks since my last official confession….

My most played CD is a three way tie and they are all quite different from one another. The first would be Elv1s. This compilation of all of Elvis’ number ones – literally – rocks. I frequently listen to Elvis while working on the computer, doing things around the house or working out. Wait! Who am I kidding? I haven’t worked out since Little Sudar was conceived. Sorry, scratch that. I listen to Elvis a lot. Number 2 would be Sarah McLachlan Surfacing. I’ve had this CD since high school and have listened to it thousands of times. I can have it playing while I’m doing something and find myself singing along with every word without even realizing I was doing it. This used to happen all the time when I would write papers in college. The last CD is Journey Greatest Hits. Great for cleaning the house to but even better when Mr. Right and I are in the car. We both enjoy all the songs so it’s an obvious choice when we’re together.

Most played DVD. This is a little harder. Ever since we signed up with Netflix we don’t watch very many of our DVDs anymore. Right now it’s probably Baby Einstein DVDs. Which by the way, are a magical combination of bizarre images and classical music that ends up being entrancing. I would have to say that we watch Wedding Crashers the most together. But on my own, probably Steel Magnolias (go ahead, give me hell) or Top Gun

Everyone must have been too busy stuffing their faces or got caught up playing Food, Sex, or Cars because those were our only responses this week. But it is not quantity, it is quality. But now the game is over and we have another question coming up.

Everything is named something (brilliant insight from the CJS staff). Some work better than others. Band names range from the awful (Limp Bizkit) to awesome (Metallica). Same goes for sports teams. There’s the ridiculous (Nuggets), the quasi-offensive (Redskins, Canucks), the just plain poor (Utah Jazz), and the great (Colorado Avalanche). With that in mind: Which team names and/or band names do you think are best, and which ones suck?

We want to know more about all our readers. So don’t hold back. If you haven’t confessed, or it’s been awhile, or even if you did it last week, we want to hear from you. Don’t be shy and send us your response, along with your posting name to staff@crujonessociety.com and we’ll put them up next week.
